Building the WordPress V1: occasion templates, curation workflow, and sponsor-ready placement system.
WHY I’M BUILDING THIS
We kept coming back to the idea that celebration does not have to mean expensive or elaborate. What if there were a place you could visit and find one small reason to make an ordinary Tuesday feel different? Today We Holiday is our experiment in building exactly that.
THE QUESTION UNDERNEATH IT
Can a useful little editorial idea become a sustainable discovery business without becoming an endless content treadmill?
WHAT I’M TESTING
01 — CURATION OVER CONTENT VOLUME: Can a site become valuable by finding and organizing excellent ideas rather than manufacturing everything itself? 02 — SMALL CREATOR DISCOVERY: Can editorial priority go to independent makers while still creating viable affiliate revenue? 03 — NATIVE SPONSORSHIP: Can sponsored placements feel like useful parts of the experience rather than interruptions? 04 — WORDPRESS → APP PATH: Can the content architecture support a future application without rebuilding everything later?
THE BUILD SO FAR
SEPTEMBER 8 — The idea gets architecture. Defined Occasion, Creator, Curated Find, and Placement records. SEPTEMBER 9 — Monetization gets built into the model. Editorial, affiliate, and sponsored placements become structurally distinct. NOW — Building the public experience in WordPress with Elementor, ACF, and the first Occasion template.
FIELD NOTES
You do not have to create everything you publish. Curation can itself be useful creative work when the editorial point of view is strong. Monetization belongs in the architecture. Thinking about sponsorship after the site is finished creates ugly compromises. Constraints can create the brand. Alcohol-free started as a content rule and quickly became part of the product's distinct point of view.
